Picker House

The Picker House is one of the older Glencoe Mill buildings, built c. 1880.  This brick, one-story building is approximately 2100 sf, and is attached to the Cotton Warehouse.  When the Mill was in operation, this was where they opened the bales of cotton, mixed it, and ran it through tappers in preparation for spinning.  The building had to be built away from the Main Mill because it was particularly susceptible to fire because of all the loose cotton fibers.

Unfortunately, the back wall and the roof of the Picker House have collapsed.  We are in the process of cleaning up the roof and back wall, and making the remaining walls stable.  Otis, our master mason, will rebuild the walls and the great corbelling detail at the top of the wall.
