The Main Mill is the building most people think about when they think of Glencoe. It’s the flagship building — the one with the tower, the one with the rows and rows of arched windows and decorative brickwork. Built c. 1880, this building is three stories tall, and approximately 9,800 square feet. Originally, the building was used for weaving, spinning, and wrapping the Glencoe flannels. When the mill stopped operating in the early 1960s, Glencoe Carpet Mills took up residence and operated there until the early 1990s.
An addition to the Main Mill was built in c. 1950 to house the modern spinning and weaving equipment. This 9,500 square foot building is two stories tall and is connected to the Main Mill building on both levels through the original tower.
