Props for Prop Tarts

The other day, I got a newsletter from one of our Glencoe Mill tenants–Prop Tarts– and I realized that I’ve neglected to introduce them on our blog.  Prop Tarts, run by Sarah Costello and Sophia Martinez , is a full service set/prop house, and they operate out of the lower level of the Main Mill.  They do work for films, television, special events, theater, commercials, and museum displays.  It’s quite an amazing production!
We are pleased to have Sarah and Sophia working out of the Mill.  It keeps things lively! In fact, the other day, I was chatting with someone as we were walking around the Mill, and he asked me if we were putting a seafood restaurant in the Mill.  I told him we weren’t, and I was scratching my head about his question until I noticed a grouping of posts that look like sea pier or dock posts sitting outside one of the Mill doors.  A ha!  I realized that these belonged to Prop Tarts.  I have to admit, had I not known about the Prop Tarts, I would have wondered about a seafood restaurant too!

I’ve just heard about two cool events, and I thought I’d pass them along.

1.  A Tribute to the Piedmont Textile Industry:  An assemblage of weavings by Lynn Pownell with the helping hands of more than 250 local residents and area visitors.  March 5-14, 2009.

Details: Reception on Saturday, March 7, 2009, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

2. Haw River Clean Up, March 14, 2009, 9:30 a.m. – Noon

Every year, volunteers come out to clean up the garbage along the banks of the Haw River.  There will be a team of folks out at Glencoe, so hopefully, we’ll see you out there!  There’s more info at the Haw River Assembly website, or you can contact me for more info.
